Hi I'm new here, my name is Jo and i am 43 and mum to 3 older children. I am recently diagnosed with high grade DCIS, still waiting on hormone blood results and I have a meeting with my surgeon on the 8th. I also carry the Brac1 gene.
Hi silkspinner23 welcome to the forum and sorry that you have had to find us but you have come to the right place to get the support that you need.
Have they given you any indications about surgery or is that what the meeting on the 8th is to do? I imagine that your head will be all over the place right now and all sorts of different thoughts going through your mind so if you feel that you wanted to ask then ask away and we will try the best we can to answer.
Sending some hugs meantime. xxx
Thank you for the reply, I am having my first meeting with my surgeon on Thursday to discuss surgery options but my nurse has told me these may be different due to me having the Brac1 gene. I am feeling anxious about recovery as I have heart disease and diabetes. It all is a bit overwhelming at the moment and I don’t feel able to discuss it with my family as they get upset.
Hello and welcome. In May 2015 I was recalled from my first rountine screening mammogram for 2 areas of calcification (10mm & 5mm). I was diagnosed with intermediate DCIS in the 10mm area only. The smaller area was benign. I had a WLE (lumpectomy) in July and radiotherapy in September. Following surgery it was upgraded to 11mm high grade DCIS. It was not hormone receptive so after radiotherapy I was just on annual mammograms.
I didn't have any gene testing as although my gran had BC and a few if my mothers cousins they were all 70+. How did you find out you had the Brac1 gene ?
Hi and thank you for the welcome, I was gene tested a good few years ago after other family members were told they carried it and i was tested every year with mammogram and mri with contrast. Last one I was recalled for calcification and biopsies came back high grade 2.6 cm DCIS in right breast.
I will find out my hormone results Thursday.
