Hi everyone I'm new here, I was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer a few wks ago and I start chemotherapy in a couple of wks. What I would like to ask is has anyone got any ideas of any thing I can take to boost my immune system.

  • Hi Lainey,

Welcome to the forum. I think eating a healthy diet is the most important thing. I have also been taking Vitamin D3 as it’s recommended by the Department of Health as a supplement in the winter months. They recommend 400iu but I’m taking 1000iu. Obviously I couldn’t recommend what dose you should take as that depends on many factors.

Good luck with your chemo. I’ve had 2 and they’ve not been too bad.

  • Hi

I was advised before my first chemo to stop taking my vitamin c and zinc supplements but I could carry on with vitamin d. I would mention any supplements you are on to your oncologist xxx

Hi thankyou for your msg. Was it just the normal vitamin d you took or vitamin d3? I'm currently taking ultra vitamin d 2000 iu xxx

  • I was told for it to be 400 iu but I presume this is the recommended minimum? I wasn't sure what iu my original vitimin d tablets were but I've just bought some 1000iu. Was going to check with the oncologist before I start using them xx

Thankyou I will check with my oncologist when I get my appointment. Have you had your first chemo yet and how was for you. I'm so scared of the side effects xxx

  • I've had my first EC chemo and will have my 2nd next Friday.

It wasn't as bad as I had feared. Side effect wise, I felt nauseous for the first 3 days, I took the meds they had given me and was able to eat little and often. I began to get mouth ulcers and a bit of a sore tongue so was prescribed difflam mouthwash but I did end up with tonsillitus at the end of the first week so I'm on antibiotics!!! However, I've not felt really poorly and I've tried to be good and drink loads and eat healthily. I was tired the first few days but just pottered about the house but between then and now I've gone for a ittle walk each day so I didn't feel like a caged bear!!!!!

    Take care Claire x
