Hello everyone.

I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in Jan 2018.

Since thennibe had many different treatments which the cancer has been very resistant to and I've had some slight spread (most recently to brain, I had SRS therapy to 8 brain lesions last week).

My oncologist phoned this morning with a plan to start me on Eribulin as the paclitaxel I have been on obviously isn't working (even though my tumors were shrinking the spread to my brain is a sign it's not doing its job).

Anyway, I'm a really positive person and feeling good. I'm still doing all my normal activities indoors, cooking, cleaning etc. not at work at the moment as that's a bit much for me. My oncologist has really upset me this morning by saying I should be in regular contact with the hospice (i dont feel like I need them at all at the moment and I told her that) and she said its good that I'm positive but I have to keep in mind my cancer is very resistant to all her drugs.

Why would she put such a downer on my mood and make me feel like I'm almost out of time?!?! I'm 38 years old and have my husband and 4 children, we're living as normal as possible and are a happy positive family.

I'm so upset by her words, she's new to me as my amazing original oncologist has just retired and I'm so shocked that she's made me feel this way. I know I have to be realistic but I dont feel like I'm anywhere near out of time and I certainly dont need the help of the hospice yet.

I really dont know how to take this and im absolutely devastated.

Anyway I just wanted to rant to people who might understand how I feel.

Thanks for reading xx

So sorry to hear that you’ve had this experience with new Oncologist you sound traumatised, whilst concentrating on getting on with life. I do have breast cancer yet I’m also a nurse, in my experience lots of folk think hospices are where people go to die, yet in reality this nowadays is a tiny part of their work. The majority of current hospice services are about making sure people live as well as they can, they offer lots of complementary therapies, services to help and support children , as well as pain and symptom management, their approach is holistic looking at you as an individual and what is most important to you. Sounds like  Oncologist has upset you terribly but maybe they just wanted to make sure you felt well supported. I know this is difficult as we’re all so individual and what one of us finds beneficial and supportive  another may find intrusive .

Follow your heart and do what is right for you, this is your journey
