Hi, I've recently had a lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed.  I had an Octotype DX test and scored 26.  Due to see Doc on Wed to discuss chemo. I'm petrified. Can't sleep/eat, have huge anxiety attacks.  I'm a single mum and am not coping at all.  My operation was in Feb.  Please can someone advise on coping strategies , thank you in advance.  I want to focus on being positive but my anxiety is taking over!!

Hi Misty, so sorry to hear you are struggling, do you have friends or family you can talk to or that can help? The Breast care team are there to help you and you can call them just to chat, they can refer you for councelling as well.  It's such a tough time but you will get through this, are your children young? I have two teenagers and they have been very supportive. It will get easier when you have your treatment plan, not sleeping and eating is something I think we all go through, you are not alone.  Sending big virtual hugs. Anna xx

  • Hi Mistymoon,

Have you tried phoning Breast Care Now (0808 800 6000)? They can arrange for you to chat with someone who has already been in your position.

I contacted the Maggies centre near me. They offer lots of different types of support. Have you something similar in your area?

Maybe the Dr wants to discuss whether chemo is necessary for you. Would you be able to talk to your BC Nurse? She’ll have the relevant information and might be able to put your mind at rest. Fear of the unknown is often worse than the reality of something.

Try and seek some reassurance and advice. It is very difficult to stop your mind from going into overdrive.
