I was diagnosed with Grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma in December 2020.

Following the tests l had a lumpsectomy a few weeks ago.Now awaiting results of ONCOtypeDX test.

Also been refered for an appointment with the Oncologist. What is the Oncologists roll exactly will they decide what treatments l require?

Thank you.

  • Hello, I waited just over two weeks for my Oncotype results. Your oncologist will go through your treatment plan with you. They will discuss your score and use it to make an informed decision along with your own personal case, cancer stage, type, your age, general health etc about whether chemotherapy is needed. In My case with a score of19, chemotherapy was not needed. If you are borderline they will have a more open discussion with you about benefits of chemo and some let you decide your own path.

They will also discuss any meds you need depending on menopause stage and discuss radiotherapy options, number of rounds and side effects.

Finally they will check the wound to make sure it’s healed enough to receive next stage of treatment. Mine has been a very long journey.. now 10 weeks post surgery with radiotherapy starting in another 3 weeks. I hope you get the results you are looking for.
