Hi, I’ve just started taking letrazole (yesterday) waiting on my radiotherapy plan, is this correct? As I’ve noticed a few comments on the forum that says they have been told to wait until after radiotherapy before they start taking their hormone pills
Oh that’s shocking. You can always try the Macmillan nurses on this site. By clicking on ask an expert. Hope you get some reassurance.
Thank you, I appreciate that, and good luck to you too xxxx
Hi
I don't think it really matters whether you start taking your tablets pre or post radiotherapy. I'm on Anastrozole and was given my prescription pre radiotherapy. However, if you think of this as 2 different treatments. 1. Letrozole is to reduce the amount of oestrogen in your body which is 'firing' the ER+ cancer - to prevent you having it come back. 2. Radiotherapy is to follow up on the operation to remove the cancer to ensure that there are no remaining cancer cells that may be minute particles left behind - basically blasting them away IF for any reason they were missed by surgery.
Therefore, if you look at it that way, you can see it really doesn't matter if you have your Letrozole first as they are 2 different treatments, doing 2 different things.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes, Lesley sx
