Hi, I wonder if anybody can give me advice, within a week i have been diagnosed with the genetic Lynch syndrome and breast cancer. breast cancer is in early stages and in a lymph node in armpit. I am going to have a mastectomy because of the lynch syndrome. but i have been asked if i want a reconstruction. i have no idea, is there any advice someone can give me on the pro and cons of it all.
Hi Short-one welcome to the forum and I am so very sorry to hear about what has been happening for you that sounds as if it will have all been very stressful for you.
I dont know a lot about Lynch Syndrome but from what I know of it seem they think that it is a wise move to go ahead with the Mastectomy which you already seem decided about yourself. Your dilemna seems to come I imagine about the reconstruction and I can't help wondering that the real issue in respect of that is how would you feel having to live your life without your breast or would that not feel ok for you? The appearance of you as who your are and your female form is very important to many women and hence they go for the reconstruction.
Whats your thought on the reconstruction? Would it make your feel any better?
Hi there!
I am sorry you are going through this. I had a double mastectomy about 18 months ago with reconstruction. (I had diep, when they take fat from your tummy to make a boob!) It worked really well for me and recovery was much quicker and more uncomplicated than I had thought it was going to be . A friend who had a mastectomy but no reconstruction, at the same time as me, - is now going back to have reconstruction.
Everyone is different, but for me, it was definitely the right thing to do. I am very happy to answer any specific questions that you might have about this sort of reconstruction, if and when you decide what you want to do.
Take care,
Sukki xxx
