When can I drive after Mastectomy

When I had my mastectomy back in 2015 I wasn’t allowed to drive for 6 weeks but I had immediate reconstruction so that could’ve been why mine was 6 weeks. I was having physiotherapy ever week as well.  As for radiotherapy mine was 3 weeks after i finished chemo.  I think once your surgery is properly healed then it will go ahead.  Not much help I’m afraid.  All I can say is radiotherapy makes you tired, I had slight redness on my chest but nothing major.

Hi ! I had my mastectomy 17/1/21 and didn’t drive until my consultant told me I could . It was about 5 weeks post op and only local. I tried a long drive but it was not good afterwards so just see how you go . My radiotherapy started this Tuesday , it’s usually 6-8 weeks post op to give your wound time to heal . I also had my left breast removed . Have you been given a date for your operation ? 

Hello, thank you for your reply. I have 3 more cycles of chemo to go last dose on 30.4.21. I have been told to expect my op, most likely to be MX first week in June.  Was just trying to plan ahead whether I was going to be able to drive myself to Radiotherapy, which I believe is for 6 weeks. If my care goes as yours did, i should be healed up from the op, and just about able to drive by time radiotherapy starts as hospital is not far from me.  Thanks again, you have been really helpful x

I was very fortunate that chemo was not needed . I wish you all the best wishes for your op and you will be fine . There’s always help and support on this site if you need it
