I had my mastectomy on Friday 12 with sentinel node biopsy, reconstruction and reduction on the other side all done in one massive surgery home yesterday 13.  Staff were excellent and time was taken to explain everything with more than one visit prior to surgery from consultant.  Couldn’t have asked for more.

I found IPad and very long cable for charging useful however make sure you buy a distinctive colour as my charging lead was the same colour as my drain and cause a bit of anxiety with the nursing staff.

home with drains in and medication for pain relief.  Feel so lucky to have been able to have all the surgery done at once and so grateful to my consultant.

I love this site also for everyone’s support and experiences.

i think the worry and anxiety is hard.  I found once in the hospital nurses took over and you felt supported they are good at explaining things.  You might have a drain in which buzzes a bit afterwards pain relief is explained and works.

I believe from my recent experience that the wait and the though is worse than the actually surgery.  Try to breath take a bath and watch or listen to music it really helped me.

I will be thinking off you lots tmorrow big hugs

  • Hi El borrego

Hope your not feeling too sore today that was a lot of surgery in one day. I had mastectomy with immediate reconstruction in December but have to wait until the end of year for reduction in good boob. Take it easy and listen to your body and rest as much as you can.

    Take care Anne Xx

    Thank you Anne.
Yes feeling pretty sick today still a lot of blood draining away from reconstruction.   However I have more movement in my arm which is good.  Thank goodness for Spotify.  I was out of hospital really quick but happy to have my own things around me so that all helps also.

I appreciate your email.  I hope you are feeling okay yourself.

    regards gillian

Really good to come out following day! Hope you are resting & taking it easy. I had mastectomy and temp reconstruction on 11th - stayed in hospital for 2 days. Won’t have reconstruction and uplift on good breast for year! So glad the op part is over. Relaxed
