Hi there
when you get lyphedema for the first time how do you know what to do to reduce the swelling and how do you know how much in terms of exercise is enough and how much is too much. Just developed some swelling etc and struggling to figure out what i did wrong. would be good to know what works for others
thanks
Hi Jac65 welcome to the forum. Im not sure that its about exercise per sae but rather gentle massage to move the lymph fluid around and get it flowing again as it should.
Have you asked to be referred to the Lymphoedema service at the hospital or do they not have such a thing in your area? If not your breast nurse should be able to tell you how to get referred for treatment for this. I have Lymphoedema in my breast as well and had a few episodes of Cellullitis in the breast with redness and heat on the breast and that needs treated with Anti-biotics and you should carry a supply with you in the event of a flare up. Unfortunately it is a life long thing and will ease off but never totally goes away at least thats what I've been told.
Dont under any circumstances let anyone take blood or your blood pressure on the arm on the same side as the Lymphoedema.
Happy to chat more if its any help. xxx
