Horrible sticky sensation

Hi everyone, this is all new to me.

I’ve had a whirlwind   Month of being diagnosed following a routine mammogram. I’ve had tests, MRI etc culminating in a lumpectomy and removal of 2 lymph nodes just under 3 weeks ago. I’m waiting to have radiotherapy and then will take hormone therapy tablets for about 5 years, so I know I’m one of the lucky ones.
I feel fine apart from a horrible “sticky” sensation under my armpit and although I can move my arm to do my exercises, it’s a really horrible feeling. I’ve put aloe Vera gel onto the area which soothes it for about 5 minutes, then the pain returns.

Has anyone else had this feeling? I’d appreciate some tips and I’m hoping it won’t be permanent.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

When I had a sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) from my left armpit after being diagnosed with melanoma I do remember my armpit was uncomfortable for a few weeks afterwards. Rather than 'sticky' it just felt like the skin was rubbing together because of the swelling but this sensation went after a while. Have you spoken to your BCN about the pain and sensations you're getting?

Hi FFClady, I am a few weeks ahead of you with exactly the same diagnosis and treatment as you. I can’t say I had a sticky sensation but my lymph node wound was swollen. It may be best just to gently clean it and not put anything else on it to allow the scar to heal and the swelling to go down. My breast nurse told me to moisturise my breast a week before radiotherapy but not to put anything on the wound until it had healed. Hope this helps and good luck with your treatment.
