Hi girls. I have been taking Letrozole for almost 2 years now. I have developed a love/hate with this drug. I love how it keeps me safe, but hate the sore joints it gives me.

I have tamed the side effects with cod liver oil and glucosamine.

I recently bought my usual cod liver oil supplements from Holland and Barrett. I trust their quality. This time their best offer was cod liver oil with calcium. I thought I would give it a try..........IT IS MIRACULOUS!! The pain in my joints has stopped altogether!!

They should prescribe on the NHS!!

Hope this helps all you sufferers of side effects.

Love J xx

agree, bustysusy.        I have been on letrozole for nearly 5 yrs now and haven't had any ill effects at all.    I am glad there are medicines out there that can help.   years ago, we would all ,  possibly ,  have died , before medicine and operations got better !!!

    Hello there!

I have had awful aches and pains, have even fallen over because of the problems Letrozole is causing and my oncologist has prescribed me a supplement, Normorelax, I take 1 tablet a day. I don't know what it is in the UK but it's a:

Food supplement based on Magnesium, Tryptophan, Boswellia Serrata Casperome® with Niacin
and Vitamins B2 and D. Magnesium, Riboflavin and Niacin contribute to the reduction
    of tiredness and fatigue and to the normal functioning of the nervous system;
Magnesium and Niacin also contribute to the normal psychological function.
Boswellia counteracts localized states of tension.
Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle functions and the immune system.

It seems to be helping me, hope it helps someone else too!

I have been on letrozole since May 2016 I took accord . Now this has changed as the manufacturer contract ran out the chemist has sent four o different types in the past three months . Cipla. I cannot take .very bad diahrea . And sweating . Not sure yet on the other two . Like you,   , I just keep going . I take immodiumand cocodamol and get on with it . Being73 ,74 in May  I put a lot of arthritis down to age . But it is difficult when they change the pill .each manufacturer uses different additives and it is these that can upset  you. It's just a question of being happy and coping . .

  • , can I ask what brand you have had, or have you had varied over the years.

I think the supplement, Normorelax sounds very interesting.  We are always learning.

We have to keep remembering, Letrozole is there to help us, it is taking our oestrogen out of our bodies to stop the BC feeding on it!

We can do this, one day and one tablet at a time xxxx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x

    Hi everyone on Letrozole,

I could really do with some help now re. this drug.

I have a deeply unsympathetic doctor who put me on Cipla..the cheapest..as he runs his own pharmacy and because of cost is reluctant to order anything else, saying they are all the same , even though my oncologist gave me a prescription for Femera if possible.  I found a local chemist who obtained Accord for me and I have been not too bad on this for 7 months.  Now the chemist has retired, and at the same time I have read that Activis (who make Cipla in India) have now bought Accord. (which was based in Barnstaple) The latest Accord I have been taking seems to be making my hands incredibly painful, I can't pick up anything easily, and now my knees are beginning to creak. and it hurts to stand up.  Is this a result of just the drug itself or the brand change. Cipla had tetrazine in it which is banned in Germany and Austria, and not recommended by the UK Food Agency. but this isn't showing as an ingredient  on the Accord I am now receiving.

Does anyone have any firm information about the different costs,,For instance how much is Teva, which seems to be made in this country.  These increased side effects are really spoiling the quality of the life I have left , and it does seem to date from the take-over.

I would be so grateful for any advice from anyone who knows more about the subject. (It is useless to talk to my doctor )

Many thanks to you all for reading this.

    hi

sorry to hear of your problem

I am on Lextrozole - have been since 2014 -  for 5 yrs - finishing next June 2020.

never had any problem with this.

could you request an appointment to be referred back to the consultant who first put you on your drug  - which , presumably, you were given it at time of  breast cancer ?    maybe if you can by-pass your doctor - you do have the right to a second opinion.     my mcmillan nurse was very good - could you have a word with her ?

not much help really - sorry.

Dear  calador, I totally understand your problem . I have been on accord for two years and I discovered their contract had run out. .Cipla causes me pain and diahreah. I have had to return it. I spoke to the doctor about this and he said I would now have to try all types to find which would suit me best . I've now had glen mark and crescent. I take immodium from the doctor and try to regulate that a bit . Stiffness is difficult and I have already a bent knee due to arthritis. They won't operate because I took deep vein thrombosis after breast op. I'll check out Teva. I'm 73 and on Letroze for ten years and specialist advises that I should stay on it permanently. So I am desperately trying to find what suits me best. I put a lot down to age , but I'm told that's nonsense it's the pill .

I'll let you know how I get on . It's not easy .

       Greta .
