Hi everyone, I had a lumpectomy and full node clearance in 2021, went on to develop lymphoedema in my left arm. This was controlled by my wonderful lymphoedema nurses and I now wear a compression sleeve and glove every day which keeps it under control unless I lift something heavy or overuse my arm. My question is does anyone have experience of short haul flights with lymphoedema, 2 - 3 hrs max? I am extremely anxious about the effects, but would love to have a short city break. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated . I have posted on the lymphoedema forum, but thought more people might read here. Thank you.
Hi Molly23
It’s Wayne here from Macmillan’s Online Community team. I saw your post and wanted to offer some support whilst you are waiting for other group members to reply.
We have a helpful page on Travelling with long-term treatment effects which you may find useful. There is a specific segment on there regarding travelling when you have lymphoedema which includes advice/tips before you travel, during your journey, and while you are away. If you have a lymphoedema specialist, you could talk to them about your travel plans before you go.
You can also speak to someone directly on our Macmillan Support Line. They are there for when you want to talk things through with someone for advice. Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00. If you would rather speak to them via message, you can also do so via live webchat.
You can also contact a Macmillan Professional on our Ask an expert forum. Our experienced Cancer Information Nurse Specialists can answer questions about cancer treatments, side effects and offer guidance with long-term effects. Once you have posted your question, a qualified Macmillan professional will respond within 3 working days.
I hope the above information is helpful. If you need any assistance using the Online Community or need some additional support, please don’t hesitate to email Community@macmillan.org.uk or send a private message to the moderator account.
Best Wishes,
Wayne
