Please don't judge me. I have at least 10 swimsuits size 22. Before this last diagnosis and Pic line I did Aqua fit, Aquazumba and Aquamed at least 3 times a week plus swimming with my granddaughters. I have arthritis so it was a perfect workout for me and something active and fun I could do with my girls. I went swimming more than I went out so I bought swimsuits that caught my eye. Never black, black isn't going to make size 22 look thinner!
I am heading towards a bilateral mastectomy, fingers crossed. I'm afraid none of the swimsuits will be suitable. So what can I do with them? They are a bit like lingerie so I'm not sure they will be welcomed at Oxfam etc.
Had anyone any ideas?
“Knitted Knockers” will be perfect for you, the ladies make them out of shower scrunchie material, they are completely free, these kind souls donate their time, beautiful people, google it, all the information is there, you can choose your size and if you don’t feel they are right they will make you larger or smaller ones, they are perfect for swimming and dry quickly, you can keep all your swimsuits and continue to enjoy all of your aqua.
Good luck, I’d love to know if you found them useful xx
Hi everyone. Thank you for replies.
I'm afraid all of the swimsuits have a low v neckline. I have a prosthetic from episode one and it shows in all of them. I only had a lumpectomy but there was quite a difference between left and right. Especially as I had lymphedema in the left after the second episode. One Dolly and one Twiggy. I anticipate "going flat" when swimming. Many retailers do high neck suits I think would look fine. It will be an incentive to getting back to something I love and is great for my physical and mental health.
I had my penultimate Red Devil today and the Sister on the unit said the Picc line would come out next time. So between them and surgery I should get a few weeks swimming in. I can't wait. So a couple of the suits will get a few more dips.
Fingers crossed I get the bilateral and the suits go to someone who needs them.
Night all.
P.S so glad I didn't throw them all out on Wednesday.
Three times! What did I do?
You could wear a crop top type of bra ( primark do them for £4) with a prosthesis of some sort in, under your swimsuit to fill it out. It would just look like you were being a bit modest....
Another option is to donate to a lovely lady on instagram called tit-less wonder, i think i have that right, she has started up a charity called pre-loved-re-loved and will accept this type of thing to pass to others in need of items that are in the same situation as us? Maybe worth a look.
sending lots of luck and good wishes x
Hi Aia
I don't mind buying new styles. To be honest I think it would be a bit of a boost. I have hated wearing bras and prosthetic for the last 17 years. My bra after work was usually on the same chair as my coat. The prosthetic came out on high days and holidays. I cannot imagine trying to keep two level.
I know the scars will be tender for a while too, months not weeks. I can't imagine wearing two tight tops, in water, while working out, will be comfortable.
My friends,I hope, will be happy to see me back whatever shape I am.
Thanks for the idea though.
