  • Apple I was sure I replied to this!?

Three times! What did I do?

  • I got a notice on it saying it contained a word that indicated I was at risk. I must have ticked the wrong box. Confounded Can I ask that you read my profile. I had EC yesterday and I'm even finding my kindle heavy today!!

I'm not sure I'm going to have a choice. I may have to plead my case for a bilateral mastectomy. Ridiculous I know? What has Angelina Joley got that I havent?

  • I had a double mastectomy with flat closure in 2023 (aged 37) and have always been very happy with my decision. Sure, in an ideal world I would have loved to have kept my natural breasts, but I discovered I have a brca1 mutation so it was not advised. I was offered implant reconstruction (not enough body fat for anything else), but when I really thought about it, I didn't like the idea of having two unnatural things in my body. I do quite a lot of sports, so I was worried about implants potentially moving, having further operations to change them in the future (I had a lot of operations during my cancer treatment), or being uncomfortable. With flat closure, life is very comfortable - laying on the beach is a dream! Sure my body looks a bit different, but it was the best choice for me.

I found BRCA chat (a charity) to be a useful website, they have a mastectomy gallery to see different types of results and so maybe that helps you to visualise different options (regardless of whether you have a brca mutation or not)?

If you have any further questions that I can help with, don't hesitate to reach out. Wishing you the best of luck with the rest of your chemo treatment and the decisions and operations to come xx
