Can you swim in a public swimming pools and the sea with a port? Had mine fitted in June so obviously fully healed. Have read somewhere that it’s an infection risk. Is that correct or a myth? Thanks everyone.
Hi Bonnie. If you are currently having chemo and are immunocompromised, you could be at risk of catching a virus from someone in a changing room, same as in any space. But your port is sealed so can’t be contaminated. I have always used swimming pools with mine.

I am a Macmillan volunteer.
I have metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer, in remission
My oncologist gave me the all clear to swim after I had recovered from my radiotherapy, I had a fully healed port in my arm at the time. I had it removed in August and wasn't allowed to swim for 3 weeks.
