Hi. Just wondered what happens after you have completed chemo. Do you have any scans or anything.
I feel like I am just drip fed info at the moment and suddenly panicked before about what happens after chemo. I will be needing radiotherapy so presume that is next then onto medication. I presume I won’t have a mammogram as I had a mastectomy so presuming it would be an MRI to check the whole body? I know they don’t like to give those often but it would probably take it to a year after treatment is completed from when I had my last body scan.
Just read another post on here now about someone who had a new cancerous lump after chemo which is alarming. I feel like I’m safe on chemo and it is a security blanket.
Hi Sparkle498uk
After I finished my chemotherapy I had a few weeks off before I had 10 sessions of radiotherapy.
The only scan I had was the planning one ahead of radiotherapy.
As my breast cancer was triple negative, the medication I had afterwards was Zometa, which I have intravenously every 6 months.
My annual mammograms started a year after my lumpectomy. So my first one was in April after I'd finished radiotherapy in January.
Obviously everyone's treatment plan is tailor made for them, so yours might be different to mine. Your BCNS should be able to tell you exactly what will happen for you once chemotherapy has finished.

Hi
i finished chemo in December after having had surgery in May. I then had radiotherapy in January. I haven’t had any scans since the planning one for radiotherapy. I was triple positive so I am on letrozole for 5 years and have Herceptin injections every 3 weeks until October. I also have zoledronic acid infusions every 6 months. I had a bone density scan a couple of weeks ago and have been contacted by my gp about the results. I am due another echocardiogram this month. I have an appointment with my oncologist in June, and with my surgeon in July. I anticipate that I will have a mammogram at some stage. Basically I feel that they are keeping tabs on me.
