  • Hello there, just looking for a bit of advice please. I was diagnosed with BC two and a half years ago. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node removal. After my treatment finished I was prescribed Letrozole, unfortunately I had to stop taking it as it gave me really bad bone pain. My oncologist then put me on Tamoxifen, I have been taken it for almost two years, but had problems on and off with it. Pelvic pain, two ultrasound scans and biopsy due to a thickened lining of the womb.
  • The pelvic pain became unbearable and 10 days ago I stopped taking it.
  • Today I had an appointment with my Oncologist and she has now prescribed Exemestane. I have read a leaflet on the side effects, and there are loads. I just do not think I can go
  • through anymore horrible side effects. I have not started it yet as I am going on a 2 week holiday next Tuesday and do not want to feel unwell while I’m away.
  • I am seriously considering stopping the hormone medication and was wondering if anyone on here has done the same.
  • Any advice would really be appreciated.
  • Hello  , so sorry you’ve been having problems…..is there any way you could ask to begin after you return from your holiday? I’m sure your team would understand. I’m not sure about any problems in stopping the drugs for a short break.

I’m on Exemestane too, got prescribed and began taking it last October. I’d had a recurrence of my bc after a year off those AI meds, had Letrozole for 3 years and then Tamoxifen for 2 as I’d already got osteoporosis and was felt to be at low risk. I felt something wasn’t right which was why I saw a GP and got re-referred last spring, surgery May 7th followed by radiotherapy and am now on Abemaciclib as well as Exemestane. To be honest, apart from foot and ankle aches and stiffness (which is had before and was improving in my year off) and the odd hot flush, I’m coping with it. So my advice would be to ask your team if a short break would be of any detriment to your treatment long term.

  • Thank you for your reply. I will try and get through to my BC nurse tomorrow. Hopefully she will say it’s ok for me to take it when I’m back from my holiday.

    Take care x
