Hi not long joined here but wanted ask if anyone has been through similar I understand each journey is different but it's more understanding hearing of others in same situation. I'm 39 years old I have been messed around by medical team and just had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal yesterday I need a mastectomy but tbh just wanted the tumour gone I am due to have 6 months of chemotherapy then rradiotherapy then a double mastectomy what is the hopes for this as im young single mother and it's very scary thank you so much for reading
Hello....I'm sorry you found yourself here but it is a great place to ask your questions and express your feelings. Naturally you are worried and scared. I think everyone who posts here has had similar emotions. It is quite normal. I can't even tell you everything will be ok but actually the success rate for BC treatment is very high and I can tell you that it is almost 10 years ( oct ) since I had my tumour removed. It was also TNBC so like you I had chemo and radiotherapy......treatment not always pleasant....but the end result has been clear mammograms since 2015.
I'm afraid I can't comment on the double mastectomy part as I was older and wasn't tested for the gene but I'm sure you will get more replies from others who have had the same treatment plan. It does sound like a sensible solution though to prevent recurrence especially as you are quite young if you have a higher possibilty of the bc returning. I think I have read there is some very clever restruction done these days.
I hope the next stage of your treatment goes well. Keep in touch. Don't worry about expressing exactly how you're feeling. Sadness, fear, anger..... We all do it. The Awake thread is good for that.....plus a laugh. It helps sometimes to laugh with people who totally understand how you feel.
Take care. Karen
Aww thank you for your reply yes bc awful for anyone and worrying time tnbc is scary road and wasn't sure if I had treatment cures found my self wondering would this be it ext but yes ive been told 6 minths chemotherapy and then radiotherapy to did the chemotherapy knock you about much kind regards
Sadly the chemo did react for me but.....since 2015 there have been lots of improvements. You may find the taxotere is given weekly in smaller doses and if you are unwell doses can be reduced by 20%. The important thing is to tell your bcn or chemo clinic immediately something doesn't feel right. You will know....Unfortunately I didn't find Macmillan until my treatment was nearly over and I didn't want to make a fuss because I thought what I was feeling was normal.
I wish you the best progress. I am travelling now from Portugal but can chat again after the weekend. Take care.
