Scan at the end of treatment?

My wife's chemo is coming to an end after this last cycle on the tablet, we fully expected her to have a scan at the end to show the difference between her scan after surgery and at the end of treatment but this appears to not be the case. We had an appointment with our oncologist this week and it seems she will just be discharged after this cycle, has this been others experience? I guess we’re looking for some kind of closure to things that we aren’t going to get.

  • Google NICE breast cancer. These are the guidelines they follow.

I'm fighting for a scan as I was diagnosed with ductal but at lumpectomy surgery they also found lobular. The lobular didn't show on any of the mamos or ultrasound.

They are refusing point blank to give me an MRI post surgery.

I am arguing that there could be more lobular in either side.

  • Thank you, I’m just finding myself doing a lot of reflecting on everything we’ve been through which is quite upsetting. I’m sure it’s all natural things to feel at this stage and part of the process. I have since read that paper and found it useful thank you, have suggested it to my wife also.

    thanks

  • Hi I also thought that I would have a scan afterwards but I was told that because I was getting an mastectomy there wouldn't be one. That article by Dr Peter Harvey is spot on and I would give it a read. After treatment I found cancer coach online which is an excellent charity and it is a zoom calling once a week for 6 weeks. It gives you some tools to use after treatment. It's a frightening time after everything stops and it takes a time for your brain to catch up from the whirlwind of treatment and appointments. Hope always. Jxxx   cancersupportuk.org/.../

  • Redc I read on another chat that things had changed for you after lumpectomy. Hope you are ok. Where are you at now? What treatment will you have hun?

  • Sorry for the delay in replying my head has been all over the place.

Hubby has had to go off sick to keep his eye on me plus he's stressed which isn't good for his concentration being a dotcom driver.

The consultant as told me definitely no further tests until next year at my 12 month review. Although as agreed to a mamogram with contrast for my 5 year checks. This is despite 80% of my cancer, the lobular, not showing on the mamo and ultrasound at diagnosis only the ductal the 20% showed. How does he know there isn't any more lurking in either boob. I decided my life wasn't worth living if I had to live like this for the next 10 or 11 months, 3 hours sleep and worrying that there is more.

I've finally got my appointment with the oncologist to discuss radiotherapy and endocrine therapy, it's next Wednesday 4th Septembe. The bcn referred me for counselling and that's come through, it starts 20th September.

Where are you upto, I haven't read anything on.here for a few weeks .
