I’m really struggling with symptoms of vaginal dryness. It’s very uncomfortable and has also thrown my sex life out the window.
Can anyone recommend a good long term lubricant, and not too expensive, I’ve been told by my GP that nothing is available on prescription.
I have just finished chemotherapy, having Herceptin injections, due to start medication after surgery and had to stop HRT all of which have made things much worse.
Just to add to it all, I can’t use anything with oestrogen as I’m Her2 positive.
I’m hoping to get some sort of life back, so would appreciate some suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Hi all, I use Dr Woolf's vaginal moisturizer, it has really helped me. I use it most nights and they also have a pessary form. I read that in clinical studies it has proven to be as effective as using vaginal estrogen (over a few months). You can get it on Amazon or in Boots.
Thank you, I will give it a go, but have to buy over the counter. I’ve tried to get a script but have been told they won’t prescribe
Hi
I had the same issue. Extremely sore and painful inside and out. I saw a private consultant who specialises in endocrine gynaecology. I have triple positive breast cancer, so no go on normal hormone therapy but she gave me Vaginex which is a small tablet inserted with a very small tube daily (no pain) and estriol cream, which is topical oestrogen in a low dose. I was assured it shouldn't impact outcome for hormonal cancers.
I also asked about libido and she prescribed me Androfeme, which is a low level testosterone cream you rub into your thigh. Really works!! Although you can't get this on the NHS (but you can get viagra )
Your GP should be able to prescribe the other two Vaginex and estriol, if they are the right solution for you and your personal medical situation.
Hope that helps someone out there. We all deserve a sex life.

I should also add that I use Epaderm emollient cream for washing, I mix it with a little water, wash off and then reapply through the day if I need it. It comes in a large tub of 500g for about £10.00. I have an estrogen positive breast cancer diagnosis so was really concerned about asking for local estrogen, however I was so dry and sore that I had to do something. My Oncologist said that the MDT agreed that local estrogen could be prescribed for those with ongoing vaginal dryness issues. I have been using Estriol 0.01% for the last 3 months (twice a week), then Dr. Woolf’s vaginal moisturiser all the other nights. This regime has made a huge difference to me. Up until now I haven’t been able to sit down for long, driving has been an issue and wearing anything with a seam has been a no no. I think I have turned a corner and life has definitely become easier. As I have to be on Anastrozole for another 9 years I had to find a solution. I hope you find this info useful.
