Hi,
I had a single mastectomy & immediate implant reconstruction 2.5 weeks ago on December 28th and still have a fair amount of pain and pulling sensations, it doesn’t seem to be improving.
I tried a couple of walks but get a bit of pain after also, so nowhere near being able to get back to a normal ish situation in terms of a walk longer than a few minutes.
My new breast is also still very sore to the touch.
How long did others with similar surgery suffer with pain? I don’t know if this is normal or something to be concerned about?
If anyone could share their experiences or thoughts it would be most appreciated x
Hello,
please check out with your BCN, in my experience I had discomfort rather than pain, which was easily managed with paracetamol. However, your new boob has a lot of healing still to do.
Walking is great, but try and keep your walks short till you get a bit stronger, you’ve had a big operation. A circular walk is useful as when you feel tired it’s easy to cut back home. Please also do the suggested shoulder exercises (you should have a booklet for that) as shoulders don’t like being immobile.
I hope your BCN can be reassuring and also spot if there’s anything untoward.
Hugs xxx
Moomy
Thank you, I shall do that…I’m hoping they may have my results this week but if I don’t hear by midweek I’ll give her a call :-) xx
Thank you for your reply….I shall definitely keep my walks on the short side for now.
I have been doing my exercises but maybe I’ve overdone one of them as I really feel it when I do a specific one.
I am hoping my results shall be in this week and my nurse said she’d call so if I haven’t heard by midweek I’ll give her a call just to discuss this pain whilst we are waiting on results.
Thank you for the hugs, sending some back :-) xx
I had mastectomy with immediate implant a couple of years ago now. I found it more uncomfortable a couple of weeks after the operation, more so than straight after the op due to excess fluid. This was gradually re absorbed and things got easier. It did feel heavy and uncomfortable for quite a while. I used to sleep in a bralette at night for the first 6 months and it took awhile to find comfortable bras.
I don’t really notice it now and am back to normal playing tennis, swimming.
It does take a little while to settle down, just have to watch for signs of infection early on in your recovery. X
Thank you that really helps….I too feel more uncomfortable now than right after surgery and it’s good to know that in time you’ve settled down enough to get back to normal…hopefully by the end of this year that may be me :-)
I’ve spoken with my BCN today and she’s referring me to physio just to check for signs of cording and if pain is same in a week then I may go back to see consultant but if a slight improvement then I won’t need to…she said she’s not concerned at the moment too much so that’s good also.
Thank you for your help xx
