Hi told that after having my lumpectomy and sentinel  lymph node removal yesterday that I shouldn't have injections or blood pressure etc on my affected arm. Its my left arm so where I wear my watch. What sort of things have other people got that they wear, and where is best place to buy.. pictures would be helpful.

  • I d had double mastectomy and senital node biopsy  both sides and initially had blood pressure cuff on my calf following surgery. Since 6 weeks post op my oncologist and other medical professionals. Have informed it’s fine to have procedures on both arms where no further lymph nodes have been removed. I have had many blood tests from either side repeatedly to include  having radioactive liquid injected into my arm ( for kidney test), lots of blood pressure tests from on both arms  and also a PICC line placed into right arm. I also wear an apple smart watch with no issues. Hope this helps

  • Hi Alison

i had a left side mastectomy and all my lymph nodes removed from left arm and was told not to use that arm for blood test , needles or blood pressure I wear my watch on my right arm and also my wedding rings.  My picc line was placed in my right arm also.   l was told that if I had problems getting blood from my right arm that they would use the left . But have had no problems so far.

  • I had bilateral lymph node clearance, so did not have a good arm. Originally I had BP in calf,  it found that it is unreliable, 20 units higher than I’d should be. I wear my watch as usual, loosely, and have 2 plastic bracelets, one for each arm. They are loose, and have printed on them the necessary  information. Called Mediband and come from Australia.
Since then I have had to have blood taken, BP done and drips. I ask them to use hand veins to minimise arm swelling, and have my compression sleeves to hand if needed. Once an incompetent phlebotomist forgot to take the tourniquet off and I had a huge haematoma. I was OK though, used my sleeve and had no ill effects.

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
