Hi I know this might be a silly question but do you get put in a hospital bra after lumpectomy surgery  or do you have to supply your own?

  • Thank you Orchid23, I'm hoping that the meduim will be ok for meFingers crossed, I bought a M&S post surgery bra after my biopsy as all I had were under wire ones, I have a couple of pullon bras that are fairly comfortable so with the other 4 just ordered Should be ok now. I have plenty of front open tops but not night wear that will be next on the list.Sweat smile

  • I never liked the non wired bras, always felt they did not give you enough support.  But now I wear the non wired, I will not be going back. Much more comfortable.  They have improved greatly.  Ask your BCnurse for the little pillow.  I bought a v pillow for my first op, which definitely helped with making sure I didn’t move onto my side.  I sleep normally on my front, so I find that quite hard now not to be able too, at least not yet.  But I now use a little pillow to put under my arm, as it still niggles at night.  They did not offer me one of the little heart shape pillows at the unit.  I forgot to ask to be honest.  X

  • I’m due in for surgery next week and managed to get some in primark they have a lovely breast cancer range, even got a pretty non wired from fastening for when I’ve recovered from surgery

  • I found them too small for me unfortunately

  • Hi Alison, just to throw a spanner in the works I had a binder on. They sat me up after surgery and put it on. I had to wear it for 72 hours. It was like a big tubigrip with a velcro panel. I put it on in the car so I didn't move about over the bumps! I'm wearing M and S sports type bras now. I'm day 13 now. Best wishes

  • Ooh goodness that doesn't sound comfortable. Glad you have graduated to bras. Take care

  • Hi Fifibee did you have lumpectomy or mastectomy ?

7 days to go now for my lumpectomy. So far got lots of bras, button shirts and PJs plus have treated myself to new make-up etc, thought Im going to make an effort to look as good as I can.

  • All being well 8 days for me although might be delayed due to traumatised lumpy boob with all the prodding,, good luck Fingers crossed

  • Hi Alison, I had a lumpectomy - a wire guided excision.

I haven't worn any make up yet! It's quite liberating. The feeling of relief afterwards is immense.

You'll feel and look glam in your pjs!

    Best wishes

  • I had a magseed inserted. I  don't normally wear make-up but since I started putting so on I think its boosted me a bit, as had some lovely coments
