Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in August after finding a lump in July of this year. Since then I have been doing a bit of reading around lifestyle changes with the aim of reducing the chances of a recurrence (should I be lucky enough to be given the 'all clear', I don't want to get too far ahead of myself).

I have started using Sanex Zero shower cream and deodorant but I can't seem to find a good moisturiser that doesn't cost the earth, plus I don't think the deodorant works as well as the other brands I used to use.

If any one out there has come across any good brands / stockists for 'breast cancer friendly' cosmetics then it would be great to hear about them.

 Love to you all x

  • Hi - I use aveeno moisturiser and find it very good - it’s a little more expensive than some but I don’t have any reaction to it. I also use Sanex zero deodorant but have stopped using full make up as couldn’t find any without some of the unwelcome ingredients! I did treat myself to Clinique moisturiser and mascara as that brand was recommended. I’ll be interested to see what others feed back. Lx

  • Hi Monalisa1869 - thank you! I really appreciate the suggestion and will look into the aveeno range, I think they do a few different ranges but will have a browse.

I have just found the Breast Cancer Prevention Partners website who run the campaign for safer cosmetics coalition project. They have links to a few different brands that they recommend.

I haven't looked into them yet but will post details if I try anything and would recommend it Wink

  • I've used sanex zero for years but also have some Kind natured products. You can buy in boots and online.

I switched to a natural deodorant so use Faith in Nature (amazon or Holland n barrett). Deodorant can be tricky as I feel it doesn't work as well as my old Mitcham one but as I don't sweat the same its just something else to get used to. I've always used more natural products but went thru a spell of dry skin about 6 months after starting tamoxifen. Always used E45 but my skin protested. I've switched to CeraVe. Yes its pricey but lasts ages and really moistures. I'm also a fan of MooGoo. I treated myself to the travel pack which means I could try shampoo, conditioner,  body wash and moisturiser without buying the large ones in case my skin didn't like it. I didn't have chemo but they also do an oncology pack. Some products are in Holland and barrett too. Again more pricey but worth it. Both have worked well as my skin feels dry most of the time. I'm also loving the no7 menopause range at boots. I only use the day moisturiser but my skin loves it. I've been a clinique wearer for many years but this is cheaper. Try and time it for when staff are handing out the money off no7 vouchers if you shop in boots.

  • I was already using Sanex Zero products before my diagnosis, since then I have made other changes. I now use Green People cream cleanser, face moisturiser, hand cream; Dr. Organics body butter; Moo Goo moisturiser during radiotherapy; Naturtint hair colour (less chemicals, not ready to go grey yet!); Faith in Nature shampoo or similar.

Since my treatment last year I've noticed that I rarely need to shave my underarms or legs, it's as if the hair has stopped growing (I'm on letrozole). A welcome side effect, the only one unfortunately!

  • Thanks both, Ive never heard of faith in nature - all good suggestions, will definitely try!

  • Great idea re. travel pack. I think I need to get out more, I never saw a day coming when I'd be excited about washing my hair, lol!Rolling eyes

  • Hi Bunny7

I use Faith in Nature shampoo, shower gel and soaps all vegan and no parabens or SLS also rimmels new make up Kind and Free all safe and no nasties, my daughter is vegan and good for ensuring my stuff is safe, she checks stuff out and won't let me use anything potentially harmful . Faith in Nature all smell lovely aswell.

    Xxx

  • I discovered Highborne skin care post diagnosis. All paraben free and company was set up by a breast cancer survivor. It's not cheap but you don't need much and it's very moisturising. I love it !

  • Thanks Pusheen! What a thoughtful daughter you have too BlushBlush

  • Hi Jurassicgirl (great name by the way) - I will add Highborne skin care to my list. Id like to spend some proper time researching products now so I'm all set up and good to go once all my treatment is over. I need things to keep me busy and distracted at the moment and will hopefully be making up for lost time getting out and about again at some point so all these suggestions are really helpful.
