Hi

Does anyone have any tips for getting sleep with a drain in. I am getting about 2-3 hours at a time but having to sleep on my back and finding this difficult. I have been taking codeine more for the sleepiness than the pain relief but obviously that is a slippery slope! Any ideas:tips greatly appreciated

Thanks

Aly

  • I feel for you all! Had 2 drains after mx with implant, one removed about 10 days in, the other at 15 days. A cloth bag that I was given ‘just’ held them both and hung in my shoulder but after the first one went I could tuck the line in the bag properly. Actually started walking within the first few days, round the block to start with of course, once the house and garden weren’t enough! And went back to choir just before the second drain got removed! With the bag strap across my chest under a loose top it was ok and everyone understood.

Sleeping? Well, having a nap in the day helped at the start, but I found sleeping on my good side the hardest for some time.

Take care and keep doing those exercises!

  • Hi Aly I’m on night 13 with the drain still in situ, I have everything crossed it will finally come out tomorrow. I’ve slept in a spare bed with a v shaped pillow and have a daily kip on the sofa, hope you’re managing to get a good night sleep soon xx

  • Hi Tilly

Oh god night 13 sounds grim! Fingers crossed you get it out today. I am also hoping mine comes out today - the wound site is starting to become quite sore - not inflamed or infectious just ‘pulling’ a lot.

Heres to some proper sleep soon xx

  • Blimey that's a long time! I hope you all get them out today x

  • Hi do you sleep with your drains next to you in bed or let them dangle down and have them on the floor?

  • Hi I was given a bag to put my drain in which was like a cloth handbag so slept with them in bed x
