When I had my first one in December 21 they said its basically an ultrasound of the heart. I was given a gown, asked to lay on the bed and they applied gel, they checked my heart, spleen, arteries upto my neck from the centre of my chest, they also got me to hold my breath for a period of time so they could see how my heart coped when beating faster. Its so they can get a baseline reading of everything before any treatment starts as some treatments can change/damage the heart muscles.
Yes I believe the oncologist should get the results/report by that evening. x
Ahh lovely I’m glad it’s got a bit better! My next treatment is on Tuesday and for some reason I’m feeling anxious! I think it’s more that I’m anxious about what the side effects are like each time rather than the actual treatment, if that makes sense?!
Anyway, I had my heart scan on Friday. It was fine. I had an initial injection which apparently did something to my red blood cells, then I went off for 30 mins, then they injected me with some radiation and then I had the scans. They did two, and hooked me up to the ECG machine… sorry if I’m getting this a bit wrong, I don’t tend to take the technical stuff in very well and generally I still have my head in the sand a bit when it comes to treatments and scans etc! the results will be with my oncologist tomorrow apparently…
I then saw one of the oncology team for a catch up, he said everything looks like it’s going in the right direction, and after my treatment on Tuesday I have a mammogram booked in and then a catch up with my surgeon… apparently when I have my last treatment in 3 weeks time I may even have my op date..
Anyway, I did get one bit of info I thought might be worth passing on, I told him that I do get a bit of boob ache between treatments which I was worried about but he said this is perfectly normal and to think of it as the cancer reacting to being zapped!! So if anyone else has any aching then this is normal!
i hope everyone has a good week this week x
Thanks for all the info. Best of luck for Tuesday.
I get a sore boob too and wondered why but good to know it's the cancer getting zapped.
Sleep well everyone xxx
Yep totally makes sense. The treatments the easy bit, it's the side effects we dread. Crikey it's all go for you this week and all very positive. Fab. Let us know how you get on. That's good to know about boob ache.. I did wonder..
Night everyone
Hiya,
I hope everyone is having a good week? Good luck to those of you having your chemo too day :)
So I just wanted to give a quick update, I had my fifth session yesterday, last one in 3 weeks. Feel ok today but dreading the horrible stomach injections that will begin again for the next 7 days.. they are such a pain and just stop me from feeling like I can get back to normal while I have to have them…!
but I had a mammogram and scan yesterday and then a catch up with my surgeon and they were very happy with my progress. :) because it’s inflammatory they could never establish a definite size of the boob tumour, but it was very large around 50mm, but now the inflammation has gone they can get a better look at it.. the lump has gone from being one big lump of cancer to now having been broken up by the chemo into a few smaller lumps.. so they were very happy with that.
My mastectomy will be 6-8 weeks after my last chemo in 3 weeks so looking at end of June/start of July for that.. part of me wants to have it in July to give me a nice bit of time off but I also just want to get it over with and done!
But I should be well on the way to recovery after that so I’m very pleased with that. It looks like there will probably be a bit of radiotherapy afterwards - possibly just one week - and then i‘ll have 6 months or so of the herceptin injections. Probably won’t have hormone tablets as my hormone receptiveness is not that high, but they don’t seem too concerned about that…
so yes an end is in sight to the cancer-part of this, I know there will be a long way to go with the recovery but I hope this gives some hope to us all that we will get over this and move on with our lives! Xx
Morning. Hope you feel okay after your chemo
Fantastic news that your tumour is splitting into smaller bits so the chemo is working.
One more chemo for you and you can get rest of treatment started and finished. Nearly there.
I have been okay apart from thrush so got some meds for that and hopefully can eat a bit more today as struggled for a few days.
Last day of my 7 day injections today so painkillers to control bone pain if it happens. All prepared.
Take care everyone and hope your weeks are going well xxx
that's such good news the tumor has shrunk, I'm so pleased for you, the end is in sight.
I had my bloods today, though they're finding it harder each time to get bloods.
Docetaxel and herceptin Friday for me do the feat of the unknown is real at this point. Its not knowing how I will react to it that scares me most, have steroids to take tomorrow evening and Friday morning before I go to hospital.
@Seaside I hope the thrush clears up soon, I hate not being able to eat properly lol I'm a foodie haha, good news that it's the last of the injections for now, I have a total of 21 left over the next three cycles so within the next 9 weeks I can say this part of my journey is over. Not long to go ladies.
Keep well xx
Thank you, yes I want to get this last treatment done now so I can be finished! Less than 3 weeks to go…
I’ve been having a mix of docetaxel, something else beginning with C I can’t remember the name of (!), and herceptin for all my treatments. To be honest the side effects have just been what we’ve all been suffering - not being able to eat properly, sore mouth, tiredness so hopefully you shouldn’t get any new nasty surprises… good luck with it! X
