I am taking letrozole and i am experiencing some hip pain dont want to take conventional meds can anyone recomend any natural remedies

Many thanks

  • Have you spoken to a doctor about your hip pain? It’s better to figure out what’s causing the pain before thinking about treatments. A lot of joint pains are helped by physiotherapy

Anabrock this is a side effect of taking letrozole. I am looking for advice  from anyone who has also experienced this and  has used any alternatives instead of medication.

  • I find keeping active works best for me. I seize up if I sit about too much. I have also noticed that since starting on antihistamines for some swelling I get as a SE of herceptin/pertuzumab that the Letrozole aches have mostly gone. This may be coincidence, but could be worth a try as you can get them over the counter.

Thanks wallydug i do keep active but i have an office job and  my sleep has been disturbed during the night. I  will consider antihistamines but have  also thought about cbt oil.

    Thanks so much

  • OK good to know. I have a joint disorder so am always cautious when people assume it’s not something to mention to a doctor just in case it’s not what they think it is. I use an electric heat pad which really helps. I also have a TENS/EMS machine which disrupts the pain signals with low level electrical impulses. I’ve heard some people swear by black pepper cream on the painful area. And for bone/joint pain Epsom salts baths can help - I can’t get out of the bath though so it’s not for me. Be aware that these are ideas for fibromyalgia rather than chemo side effects so do check with your medics if in doubt. Hope this helps

  • I also find keeping active is the best way to keep any pain away as I get stiff sitting too long. I make sure I take regular breaks from my desk. The best natural remedy out there.

However, I had hip pain overnight when starting on exemestane and found taking hemp seed oil (not CBD oil) helped. All those omega oils are good for joints.

I now take glocosamine which I think is helping my joints and ligaments. I had seen others recommend it on here.

I try and stay away from painkillers too as that's not a 5 year solution!

I would also say that my pain has got better over time. My oncologist said side effects tend to settle in about 6 months.
