Nerve pain on left side

Hi.

My name is Penelope and I had bi lateral lumpectomy on the 17.th September, plus node removal .

The problem I am facing is the nerve pain down my left arm. I had a fluid drain a few weeks ago and both my surgeon and my oncologist are aware of this problem .

3 days ago I was prescribed Amitriptyline to help me sleep and calm down the nerves .

Its frustrating me that insomnia has been an issue from day one however the second night on these tablets , wow, I slept for 8 hours . Tonight , however, back to the same old story .
Now Im getting worried  my nerves will never settle and I will be left with this burning sensation for ever . Also I need to be “match fit” for my radiotherapy which has already been delayed once due to the nerve situation .

My oncologist has suggested I may need a week of steroids .

My 3 week RT session is due to start on the 15th November and cannot be delayed anymore .

Is anyone else out there in a similar predicament ?

Feeling anxious .

xx

  • Hi there, I'm not in a similar position, but I noticed your post had no replies as the site is quite busy. By me answering, this will bump you back up onto the first page and hopefully one of these lovely ladies with the right experience will be along soon. It sounds though that you are doing the right thing by talking to your oncologist and following their advice.  Good luck x

  • I have to take oral steroids sometimes. 3 weeks of steroids isn’t long enough to cause side effects like low immune system, my doctor says, but might calm down the inflammation. I was told it could slow my healing but my surgical wounds look great.

  • Thankyou and . Also
Feel confident I can get this sorted tomorrow .
Possible steroids , decent physio plan and possible acupuncture are my key topics .

    Have a lovely Sunday
