Hi Left mastectomy 10 days ago, awaiting follow up results next week for the next step.
I need to understand the exercise regime please. Is it to keep the shoulder moving, or is it to stretch the breast scar tissue? I floated (yes obviously still under the surgery drugs influence) out of hospital and straight in to a days worth of the basic stretches but the next day couldn’t go anywhere close as was in so much discomfort. BCN advised to get pain relief sorted first before starting again. Then due to codeine induced sickness and continuing presence of drain I lost the rest of that first week. Removal of drain removed most of the initial problems so this week have followed the booklet and progressed to include the additional exercises. My question is should any stretching/discomfort be around shoulder or across chest? How much is too much? Which bit am I trying to mobilise?

Hello! you should have a leaflet showing exercise routines. Don't worry about doing " the wall" ones until your tightness is bearable. just gentle movements to start you off. You need the leaflet, it's your support!

Move the scar gently so that I don't stick to your chest wall . Gentle circle movement not putting any strain on the chest wall .

Thanks cupboardlove. Yes I'm working from the leaflet. Just don't know which bits I am aiming to move/stretch. Climbing the wall reasonably well (I think)

Speak to breast nurse she should get you a quick appointment with breast physiotherapist who will teach you. When the scar , underside sticks to the chest wall its painful  let physio teach you the massage techniques x  it will bring almost instant pain relief . if you have cording she / he can sort that to .
