Hey, just wondering if anyone else has a horrible smell in the armpit after having mastectomy!!! I know it sounds trivial but really getting me down! I had radiotherapy few months back and not sure if it’s connected to that. It’s like a sickly smell. I wash all the time trying to get rid of it but is still there.  I guess if that’s all I’m left with I should be thankful but it’s not very nice! My wound has healed really well so it’s not infection.  Thankyou in advance x

  • Could it be a yeast infection? Might be worth mentioning to a doctor

  • Gosh I’m not too sure. Yeah I will check with my doctor tomorrow… I seem to remember reading somewhere about radiotherapy and smell but can’t find it now. Thankyou for coming back to me x

Hi White star , I haven't heard about this but who knows it might be just around the corner for me tool lol

  • I mention it as it happened to me when I was on steroids - they change your bacterial balance and I thought maybe radiotherapy could do the same? Let us know if you find out anything

  • Yes I will do.. x

  • I remember others talking about this but I can’t remember what the cause was. It wasn’t radiotherapy I don’t think. Did you have node clearance?  I remember them saying it did go away. Search some threads on here.

  • Yes I had node clearance… twice! Hopefully seeing bcn nurse next week so will check it out. My husband assures me he can’t smell it but I can and it’s sickly. Will have a wee look at some threads as I seem to remember it being connected with radiotherapy. Thanks for reply xx

  • Hi. I had this after my mastectomy and lymph node removal and it was just awful. Mine was cured by using a natural salt deodorant stick. Almost immediately it stopped. Might be worth a try ? Xx

  • Hi welsh 1e thanks so much for this!! I still haven’t got anywhere with it but it’s getting me down! Seeing my breast nurse on Monday so hopefully get somewhere! I’m guessing you can get natural salt stick deodorant in a chemist? Thankyou! Will give it a go! Xx

  • Hi Jane. It got me down too. Just what you need when trying to recover from surgery. I got mine at a health food type shop. Honestly it was miraculous. That and my mastectomy pillow- the 2 best things to just help a little.

Good luck with everything. Im mid chemo now and that brings different challenges.

Be kind to yourself and rest lots X x
