I have my first appointment with oncologist tomorrow, was just wondering how quickly chemo will likely start after this. Thanks x
Hi,
I asked my oncologist this and was told within 2-3 weeks. I had already had mastectomy pre appointment with him.
hope this helps.
Hi Lfc74
Yes they told me 2 to 3 weeks mine starts next week . Im very anxious
Thank you for reply, I went today and am starting first cycle on Monday. Not too sure what to expect will be better once first one is done xx
I was very apprehensive before my first one, but was well looked after, plenty of tea and biscuits offered and soup, sandwiches, jelly etc. Felt unwell and tired for a week but I got an infection and spent a night in hospital in a side room to myself which knocked me back. Again very well looked after. My temp was 37.7 so they asked me to go in. It was down by the time I got there obviously.
2nd cycle today all went smoothly, back home had dinner now watching a bit of telly.
I had meant to ask on yesterday's appointment if I am supposed toissolate before or after the chemo but forgot. I'm worried about picking up infections as just want to try and get through without anymore delays. Xx
Hi Lfc74 I wasn't specifically advised to isolate prior to my chemo starting but it made sense to take as many precautions as I could to prevent infection - both prior to chemo starting and also once it had started as you get immuno-supressed. I avoid other people as much as possible, always wear a mask if I need to go into anywhere like the chemist, and follow the standard covid precautions in relation to hand washing frequently, plus use a lot of antibiotic wipes/sprays around the house to keep everything as clean as possible. I also have Savlon, TCP and various dressings to hand in case of any cuts, grazes etc. There's no guarantees that you won't still pick up an infection but I'm doing what I can to minimise the risks. Hope your first session goes OK on Monday xx
