Nightmare times

I'm 64 just had bilateral mastectomy i am sorry you find your self here. But its the right place .I was also so scared that my appointments and surgery would be cancelled but luckily they were not. As I understand it at present lots of hospitals just doing cancer surgery and urgent surgery only. Chat on here any time lots of people will be on here from about 7pm !

What treatment do you think you will need

That's the problem they have said nothing other than surgery to remove lump and lymph nodes how many nodes don't know they wouldn't say anything else just told me to wait for consultant but that's it just wait for them to keep canceling i was told i would see someone within 2 weeks but its nearly 6 weeks now that's the problem its the waiting and not knowing nightmare 

Yes dreadful time for you , well from what I know I had two lumps one in each  breast its usual for surgeon to let the  women decide if they have a lumpectomy or maesectomy.

I chose maesectomy as I just could not cope with the worry of all this and if you have no Breast tissue you can't get breast cancer.

It was easy for me in the end to make the decision. And the surgery is the easy bit in all this . They operated for 7 hours and afterwards  they said one lymph node was  affected,   so as mine was estrogen positive and her2 negitive and still classed as early Breast cancer,  despite that fact that it was stage 3 , they sent off my tissue to the USA for an Oncotype test. Which is a recurrence test my score was 38 so I now need chemotherapy not they say because the cancer has  spread but it may return without chemotherapy so I will do it. It starts in two  weeks. I expect your appointment is to decide on the type of surgery you will have and to do a medical to make sure you are well enough for the surgery. Do you have a breast care nurse? If so ring her ring her everyday if that helps.  You could also ring the consultants secretary tell her how you feel as they will have direct access to the surgeon . Best wishes

No breast care nurse yet got fingers crossed i get one on Monday I've just got to the stage want to get this over and done with so i can get on and try to enjoy my life thanks for listening to me going on but one frightened lady 

No it's a pleasure to chat to you . It's a terrifying time I had a heart scan yesterday and broke down on the radiologist! Told them I can't cope with this anymore not just after finding out l also need chemotherapy. They were lovely and I'm back up today lol x  try and relax this will be ok the waiting is the worst part of all this. You will have ups and lows .

Hi Age63, so sorry to hear you have BC, you are in the right place for support and advice, we ahve all been where you are now and know how you feel.  The waiting is the worst, once you have a treatment plan there is something to concentrate on.  In case you need chemo, it is not as bad as it's press, modern drugs can help all the side effects, it an endurance challenge really.  It's a bit late for them to cancel an appt for Monday so fingers crossed for you.  Love from Ann

So sorry to hear this has been such a long wait for you .   I have felt anxious with the wait I have had but it’s not been as long as yours.   I got my final diagnosis on Thursday and now have an appointment to get a genetic test and also to see oncologist on Monday .  It’s all moving very fast which on the one hand scares me as it is a grade 3 triple negative but I do want to get it started .  6 cycles of chemo before surgery but all I want is to get it out.  Truly hope you get some news and a treatment plan on mondAy xxx
