Hi
In 2018 I had single mastectomy with lymph nodes removed, then reconstruction . Getting on great but 3 weeks ago admitted to hospital with unrelated problems . I had to keep reminding medical staff not to use my left arm for cannula and bloods. I regained consciousness in time to stop a doctor inserting a cannula by saying “ it won’t work “ !,
Has anyone purchased a nice SOS bracelet ? I know there are a few on amazon but with differing reviews.

I’m not going to be the most help here Ruby Rose , sorry in advance! Although I’d be interested what others might have to say for the same reason as you.
In an idle moment last week, I wondered how I would make sure to avoid my right arm in the future. FYI I’m getting way ahead of myself as I still have 4 chemo cycles, surgery and radiotherapy to go.
I made myself giggle at the thought of having a “no entry” tattoo in the crook of my right elbow
I bought mine from THE IDBAND COMPANY (www.theidbandco.com). They do customised cards and bracelets. I bought a bracelet initially but in all honesty not really necessary. The card will be fine. You can put all your medical details on it. Unless you wear a bracelet 24/7 and/or have other medical issues i certainly wouldn't buy one now. I need to get my card updated. Medical staff will always be an issue because they don't read notes properly
I’ve worn an SOS pendant for years, as I’m asthmatic and have some allergies, also wear contact lenses. I have been asked a couple of times why I’ve got one.....you can get the papers on line to complete and fold to put inside, which reminds me, I probably need to update mine!
Daughter bought a stylish bracelet to say that she always needs irradiated blood products and her nhs number

My son did actually put an Elastoplast on my wrist with “do not use “ on it but it wasn’t very clear ! My poor right arm was black and blue / green/ purple /yellow from all the needles !! But I live to tell the tale ! Phlebotomist was shocked every morning she came for blood , saying aw you poor wee lamb what have they (doctors ) done to you ?? She got blood first time always . I also got anti clotting injection on my tummy ! My scar was the same colour as my arm - weird ! The bruising showed up on my scar
One female surgeon wanted to feel my tummy and said ooooh what’s this scar ? I said due to reconstruction - she replied “ oh yes tummy fat” I said I beg your pardon they used my tummy tissue and anspare went to the tissue bank . So it’s tissue they used !!! Could push a girl over the edge calling it fat !!!
Hi , just about 3 years since I finished BC Treatment, I was taken in by ambulance alone - due to covid - in resus I was given a spray under my tongue which I reacted badly to with plummeting BP. I was unconscious and it was all hands on deck , so a doctor on my useable arm then another cane along to use my other arm , I started to come round and was aware of fiddling with my arm and I said -it won’t work and he said what won’t work ? I remembering muttering “no lymph nodes “ then he hastily ran round other side . The drugs wouldn’t have worked in my no lymph node side plus I could have developed lymphodema later ! Nasty . When I was on the other wards doctors would ask which arm do I use . Which was good .
still under cardiologist for 3 months and another surgeon for my gallbladder!
so until I get the all clear I think it could be an idea to have a bracelet .
To say I’m in shock is an understatement!
especially when the paramedics handed me over at the hospital and as he gave them my details I was shocked when he said my age !!! I thought crikey that’s me !!!
im doing great though !

I used the I.D.Band Co like someone else on here mentioned and they are brilliant. First of all, after a lumpectomy, I bought one on line which wasn’t so good, as the wording wore away, but then I bought a replacement from the I.D.Band company and they are great. I wear mine permanently and there is no wear and tear to it. It is a heart shaped pendant on a bracelet, with personalised engraving on the back and the medical caduceus symbol on the front (cross with snake entwined). I never take it off, wear it permanently and it gives me peace of mind for when medical personnel need to see it. It has certainly come in handy and when I was travelling the world on expeditions, I bought one of their silicone ones so I don’t set off the airport security alarms and those are great too, I thoroughly recommend them. I’ve since had a mastectomy, with some lymphoedema, so these bracelets are important and since having to go into hospital, I wore both and haven’t bothered to remove either since. Good luck.
Sorry to take so long to thank you all , hubby ended up having an emergency eye operation! All should be well though . I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself but I’ll bounce back - if this rain would dry up !!
take care xxx
