So today i received a phone call from a breast nurse to say my surgery for tomorrow was being postponed..
Very shell shocked and devastated!!
Last week i had to have a Magseed inserted in my tumor for surgery. The radiologist did the ultrasound and found 3 more cysts so she wanted to do a fine needle
aspiration to check them out. Two were fine but the other she thought might be a fibroginoma..which i have had before many years ago...
Anyway she decided to put the magseed in and send away the sample...
And today i got the call saying the result was "inconclusive" so i will need another core biopsy...so NO surgery as yet...
Really struggling! and why did they not find this afew weeks ago???
Im worried my tumor might grow if they keep leaving it? Its only 14mm at present but it still worries me...and i am stage 2 and not aggressive...
I just need some support its tough
Hi Hobbo welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear about what has happened for you that's awful.
I imagine that you had gotten yourself all psyched up to be in for the op and I agree with you that is does seem strange as to why they didn't do those biopsies at the same time as they did the others unless those cysts are new or have changed since the last Mammogram?
I dont know what to say to make any of this better but just wanted you to know others understand that sense of frustration and uncertainty that you will be feeling. I do wonder if it is worth asking them directly when the opportunity arises why this was not done earlier and has this delayed your surgery or was something else going on that delayed the surgery on that day?
Oh bless, I din't know what else today except to empathise with you. That's a really tough thing to happen. I am sure it's for good reason, but appreciate that doesn’t help right now. Hoping you get some clarity soon
Hi I can see why you would be feeling the way you are, you were all ready for this to go ahead and suddenly the rug is pulled out from under you.
Although it's frustrating your medical team are I'm sure trying to come up with the best treatment plan for you. Better to have a delayed surgery so they can locate and remove all areas of concern than to have to go back for a second surgery.
The MRI, mammogram and ultrasound all pick up something different which is why all are used so it could be the MRI saw something the other two machines couldn't. Hopefully the delay won't be for too long.
If your team thought the delay would do more harm than good they would not have suggested it but do speak to them about your fears and worries as I think they will be able to put your mind at rest. Hopefully they can reassure you that the tumour won't grow by much while you wait.
Breast cancer is very treatable these days even with tumours much larger than yours so try to focus on one day at a time and you will come out the other end. The waiting really is the toughest bit.
Wishing you all the best x
Thankyou for taking the time to reply. It's difficult taking one day at a time xx but I will try.
Sorry to hear this Hobbo, I have my operation Thursday and would be really peed off to have it postponed......
But the medical team know what they are doing and your operation will be soon I hope x
