Hi I finished chemotherapy 3 weeks ago. I thought I would start to feel more normal but I don’t. I’ve no energy. I’m bloaty feet are swollen. Does anyone know when things improve. I start  radiotherapy next week x

  • It's early days. It can apparently take 6 - 12 months to fully recover your energy levels. That's not to say you won't feel a whole lot better soon. I started to feel better at about 5-6 weeks post chemo and that was also 1-2 weeks after my operation as I had that post chemo. I finished chemo in mid-Jan and I still have fluid retention, hands and feet in particular. My rings and watch are too tight. I am able to do a lot of my old activities but I'm tired still. Exercise definitely helps, I feel more tired if I've been unable to go out for a walk or run. I do feel good though, just glad to be able to do my hobbies and be active again. Remember chemo is cumulative so you take longer to recover the more cycles you have.

Thanks for replying. I have carried on walking all the way through my treatment but now I’ve started with my back aching I’m hoping again this is a result of 6 rounds of chemotherapy. I had my surgery before my treatment. I guess I’m just impatient and need to give my self time to recover x
