Hi
i used to post as mumof3abitlost but when the site changed I couldn't log in so I changed it
i had breast cancer in 2016 mastectomy. radiotherapy and tamoxifen (now letrozole) and a reconstruction in 2019 i thought I could just read the forum and dip in and out.
However, about 18months or so ago i cut the sole of my foot quite badly - it was the size of a 10p whilst trying to remove hard skin. The wound would not heal and I was told that it was because of where it was on my body that it keeps breaking open. i had it dressed and treated with silver nitrate but it just wouldn't go. i started to feel uneasy and asked whether this was normal and was told it was overgranulation and not to worry because they had seen loads of it. It was becoming more painful and I decided to go and see a podiatrist who also at first told me the same story. I asked him why it wasn't healing and he said he would write to my GP and get me referred to a dermatologist. Due to COVID and it not being classed as urgent I was told it would be months until I saw anyone.
i got an infection in my foot and by this time I was so anxious I lost weight and couldn't concentrate. i booked an appointment at a private clinic but had to wait until yesterday. Luckily I got a call from the hospital last week to say that there was a late cancellation and did I want it. i rushed over and the dermatologist took one look at my foot and said that I had skin cancer and she would get it cut out asap. I'm devastated and so worried that it has gone on so long that there is widespread damage and it will be bad. The surgeon told me yesterday he would be cutting it out but there would be problems closing it because of the shape. As I was leaving he said he had only seen one of them in two years.
I'm trying to hold it together but its so difficult.
Thank you
julie
Hi Margatemum. Firstly I am so sorry you have had problems getting onto the site. I hope that is all sorted for you now. Any future problems please do email community@macmillan.org.uk. for help with this.
Your foot sounds very painful. That is just dreadful that it has taken so long to get a proper diagnoses on it. It frustrates me when I hear that people have appointments pushed back because of COVID. I am so glad you were able to go private, but you really shouldn't of had too.
I know that you have been on the community before, so you know the value of speaking to people in a similar situation to yourself. You may want to join the skin-cancer-forum although I am sure you will still be made very welcome in the breast group.
I hope you get some rest the weekend after what has been a very traumatic few days for you. Wishing you all the very best.
Hi just wanted to send you hugs . I remember you from earlier posts in fact I think we chatted a few times. I'm so sorry to read your news but really hope you get a good plan if indeed it is a cancer. I'm sure treatment is excellent as we've found before and really send you so much positivity. I'm sorry I can't offer much more but hope you've got things off your mind a little bit posting x
