So I found out yesterday that I now need to have a mastectomy and the rest of my lymph nodes removed as the cancer is in them as well followed by chemo, was just wondering what diet helps to get  though this? X

Hi Lizamarie welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear your news and wondered  how are you feeling about everything? I imagine that your feelings and thoughts may be all over the place and little wonder.

I dont think there is any specific diet but maybe just eating healthy as normal would be ok and I'm sure a bit of extra chocolate if you feel like it would be allowed. I know friends who have had chemo and have felt  that food they used to like before no longer tastes the same so I think you just go with the flow and eat as healthily as you can and incorporate whatever you feel like at the time.

I think they do try to discourage Alcohol during treatment but again chocolate is allowed. Can you tell I like chocolate?

Best wishes and sending you some gentle hugs for now. xxxx

  • Hi, yeah I’m ok thinking it’s all sinking in so much to take in, yeah I think my plan is a healthy diet which I don’t do all a time, just to keep energy up, I’m as bad as you chocolate is my little friend lol, just going to take it day by day.
hoping everything is good with you?

    sending love xx

Hi Lizamarie. I had a mastectomy in November 2020. You will get through this and it will be ok. Be kind to yourself and allow time to heal. Accept all offers of help. I didn't have chemo so can't offer any help in that respect. Balls to Cancer offer chemotherapy support packs. Good luck with your surgery. Mrs Christmas x
