MRI rash and soreness

Hi there,

I had an MRI Contrast scan last Sunday and have now got a sore right breast that keeps pinging with pain and a small red spots/rash above the breast, plus a bit of soreness under my right arm. Ironically the left side where the cancer has been diagnosed is fine, no redness and no pain.

Everyone says the MRI is totally painless and generally just gives you a surprise from all the banging and buzzing (yes it was loud).

Just wondering if anyone else out there has had a similar breast reaction after an MRI?

with love and in hope

  • Hi Sr.Sq This is not a side effect of MRI that I have come across before. I think maybe it would be best to give someone in your medical team a call, either your oncology team or GP just to check this out for you.

    Take care

    Dear Chelle,

Thank you so so much for taking the time to reply. I do apologise for not getting back to you sooner.

As you suggested I did query the reaction with my nurse and they were surprised, not having heard of that before.
My symptoms weren’t typical of the contact agent allergy. They said they were going to query the positioning of the magnetic coils in the MRI scanner and possibly it’s strength. All I know is that I was fortunate to be scanned using the latest machine at our hospital since it’s deemed the most accurate, comfortable and the quietest, though still pretty noisy to me!

All the redness and soreness has gone from that event, but Was swiftly replaced with bruising from a hefty set of biopsies that were taken later in the week.

with thanks and best wishes, enjoy the sunshine!
