Hello
I've stage 4 breast cancer, where it's spread to my liver and spine. But I'm not showing any discomfort from it. I am on hormone therapy and wondered why some people say deep tissue massage should be avoided.
Is it because it might hurt - or is it because of something else?
Many thanks
Hi Mystree.
I think there are a couple of reasons that deep tissue massage is not recommended. If you have undergone chemotherapy for instance, your red and white blood cells may be effected, so you may bruise more easily. Also it is not advised if there are lymph nodes effected by the cancer. I have found this massage information sheet HERE for you.
If you do want to have a deep tissue massage, I would suggest you discuss it with your oncology team first, to see if they think it is ok for you.
Take care
Thanks ever so much!
I’ve checked with my oncologist and she’s given me the all clear.
Many thanks
