How do you feel after a single mastectomy? I keep looking down and trying to imagine life without it. How do the softies feel?
HI Draw, its almost 11 years since my mastectomy but I remember the early evening of Mastectomy day like it was yesterday. I had gone to the loo complete with drain bag to keep me company. On returning to the ward a nurse was tidying my bed so I sat in a chair and in the process of bending to sit accidentally looked down. Seeing a hollow on my right side brought a spontaneous but very quiet flow of tears. It was a shock but one that I soon adjusted to. Using scarves to cover my right side even once I was able to wear a bra and use a softie helped me feel more comfortable. I wore my softie in post op bras, this meant they stayed in place rather than moving around as they can do in a normal bra. Marks and Spencer do some really pretty post op bras these days so do yourself a favour and treat yourself to at least one before you have your op. Sending you virtual hugs and wishing you lots of luck. Julie x
