Hi Well recovering from my first cycle of chemo. Main side effects have been a horrendous migraine and mouth ulcers, which are starting to settle down now. But now started having palpitations is this normal ?

  • Hi.  I didn't have chemo but you might get support on chemo thread

  • Yes it is normal. I had palpitations after every chemo, worse the more cycles I had. I couldn't get to sleep as my heart was pounding in my head and beating so fast. Not only can chemo cause it, but the low bloods can cause palpitations too. It will get better but I found it took longer and longer for it to go with each cycle.

Do call your BCN if you're worried and remember to let your oncology team know about all your side effects.

Thanks they have calmed down abit today. But will be in touch with Oncologist tomorrow. It’s just all the different side effects we can have.

  • There are so many and many everyone's different. I found it really useful keeping a diary so I could look back and see what I'd experienced last cycle and when things were likely to calm down

Good idea keeping a diary. So how my cycles of chemo have u had ?

  • I've finished! I had 3 FEC and 3 docetaxel. I finished in January then had a lumpectomy and am just about to start radiotherapy. I am doing all the things I love again, you do get through it and out the other side even though it feels endless at the time. I don't have full energy levels back but they say it can take a good year to feel normal again. Plus I'm in my mid 40s so I have been put into a medical menopause and am on an AI now too. A lot for your body to go through but worth it of course.

Well done for getting through the first one, you know what to expect now.

I did find I got more tired as I went through the cycles and it took me longer to recover but that is not surprising when your body is being bashed.

Good luck with the remaining ones, you'll get through it.

Hi well I am due to have 4 cycles of TC Chemo then radiotherapy. I have had 2 ops one for a lumpectomy and the 2nd to check my nodules as they were unable to get in my first op, but they were clear.  I am also borderline HER2 positive so also waiting to start Herceptin injections, just need a rest scan, having that this week.

lost my job after 30 years in the same that I was diagnosed.  No symptoms was all found in my first mammogram. So job hunt on hold for the moment.
