Evening all,

My hair is well and truly on its last legs and scalp very sore. I know once hair has gone the soreness will ease (well I'm hoping it does). Are there any lotions or portions that you can recommend to use on scalp?

Thanks

Del x

  • Hi Delh I am sorry to hear you are suffering with a sore scalp.  Aloe Vera can help with this, or you can speak to the pharmacist about some aquamax cream.

    Hope it eases soon.

  • I Lost all my hair and it’s true the soreness goes away. Keep washing your hair or head. I used a hypoallergenic shampoo and conditioner. Was only cheap but really soothing and keeps your head all nice and fresh. It was the worse thing I had to go through, losing my hair,  but it’s ok. I got wigs and they give me security and confidence. And I wear head coverings when I want a break from the wigs. I’ve finished chemo and my hair is growing back. So it’s only temporary. Good luck. I’m sure you will get through it!!

  • It's far better once hair gone ..the pain is from hair follicles as they are ready to break off  .Aqueouscream is good to keep scalp moisturised massage it  in after light shampoo and conditioner .I used nioxin shampoo and conditioner it is a specialist shampoo for thinning loss of hair . Strengthens follicles /roots .

I kept my hair til very short it was uncomfortable the used a  no.2 shave ..less risk of nicking scalp and no stubble .

Bamboo beanies are brill for keeping head warm or cool sounds odd but they do both .I also used sleep cap all on  Amazon .

     Good luck

I’ve just shaved mine off and have been using witch hazel gel which feels amazing! I’m also wearing a bamboo lined beanie which is nice as it doesn’t catch on the hair that’s left unlike the other hats I have.

Hope you get some relief, it’s really uncomfortable.

    Thanks all for replying.

I will look at getting some which Hazel gel. I have the solution here but gel will be easier. It's eased off the last couple days until I get hit again. Hope you are all doing well x

I'm reeadyfor session 2 chemo and my hair starting to come out. I have normally thick hair so was waiting to see how quickly it comes out before doing anything drastic. Does hair come out patchy or fully. Really not looking forward to it

It came out in patches for me, and would have taken a while for it to completely go. I shaved mine because it was sore not because I lost it all at once. You’ll know when the time comes and I hope you cope ok, I know it’s a really upsetting part of the process.

    Sending hugs,

  • I would recommend shaving too. I shaved mine ahead of chemo starting and it wasn't sore coming out. It did feel like I constantly had it pulled back which was a bit weird. Once it started falling out (about 3 weeks after 1st chemo), I just rubbed my head in the shower to encourage it out. I didn't use any shampoos or conditioners once I had shaved my head and didn't use anything on my scalp once it was gone.
