Hi, I was diagnosed with tnbc in July 2020. I have undergone chemo, lumpectomy and am due to have radiotherapy next week. I have been advised to take ibandronic acid tablets for 3 years (to stop reoccurrence and if it did come back not going into bones). I have read the information and the side effects sound scary. Has anyone else been offered them or are taking them at the moment and how have you got on.

  • Hi Pepper51

I have been on them for a year now. No real issues, I take it at 7am everyday when get up for work so am upright, but if I have a lie in  at weekend take it at same time and sit up in bed ! Needs must so don't worry xxx

  • Dear

I take risedronate which is a bisphosphonate too. I take it once a week for 5 years ( taken since August 2018).

I have no problems but follow instructions . Read you instructions too. Yours could be slightly different .
mine are to stay upright for 30mins ( to avoid reflux) plus only water for 30 minutes ( you could be 60 minutes)No dairy for 2 hours - if you take dairy it inhibits the absorption of the medication .
I either sit up in bed or get up snd watch recorded tv . After time stated I have a weak black coffee with boiled egg , toast snd marmalade .  I set alarms on my mobile phone , to take pill , to tell me when upright position ends , to say when I can drink milk . Well I’m retired and could go back to bed zzz )
Look after your teeth and get a check up before you begin the course . Dentist says they need to be extra careful if you need an extraction - antibiotics etc . Your dentist will tell you all about it .
I was a bit worried like you and phoned the Macmillan helpline and they put my mind at ease , they are so knowledgeable.
I hate pill day as it’s a reminder of why it take it but it’s a small price to pay . Apart from that I’m great and keeping well , fit snd active .
    take care
