Surgery tomorrow for my breast cancer, having a lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed, anxiety levels going through the roof just wish it was over now.

  • Hi. I had a lumpectomy and lymph  nodes removed 2wks ago couldn't sleep the night before but it ended up a lot easier than I thought. Went down for surgery at 2pm back on the ward by 4pm eating soon after and left hospital at around 8.30pmh. Had hardly any pain just uncomfortable and was able to start the exercises next day. If you have any questions  please ask but good luck x

  • Thank you just saying that has made it easier was worrying about the next day xx

  • Just take it easy the next day but you will be surprised what you are able to do.

  • Hi , just wanted to echo what  has said, mine was 2 and a half years ago but very similar experience. And just to add that I’m a weird person that rather likes the anaesthetic drugs! Definitely take it easy afterwards though and accept any help offered. I was out walking (gingerly and not that far) a few days after. But just listen to your body and do only what you feel up to.
Good luck tomorrow , will be thinking of you. Before you know it you’ll be done and dusted and back home. Sending love and a big virtual hug, HFxx

  • Thank you means a lot, think it’s the waiting around to much time to think xx

  • I’ve got my lumpectomy and lymph node operation on Tuesday and I’m really anxious aswell. Good luck tomorrow - Someone suggested to me to just deal with the present time and not think of how you will deal with it when it comes - just deal with the present moment. I’ve got some relaxation breathing which I hope will help - no one can see me behind my mask!! Let us know how it goes xxx

Hopefully, to reassure you, the operation isn't much of a problem.  I had lumpectomy (R) and Sentinel biopsy 9 yrs ago and then,  on othe side (L), lumpectomy just recently.  The first time, I remember feeling a 'burning' sensation which Paracetamol and/or Codeine sorted out but stopped painkillers after a couple of days.

The recent lumpectomy, I actually had no pain at all but eventually discovered I had fluid collecting so I suspect that helped 'protect and cushioned' the site.  I did have to have further tissue removed plus Sentinel biopsy, 3 weeks ago and that was fine, only needing some paracetamol occassionally

Being in hospital doesn't faze me, probably as I am (retired) nurse so I enjoyed the company and opportunity to chat (live alone ;) )

     All the best to everyone

    You're very welcome

Good luck for your op.  You'll be fine and back at home quickly.  I actually opted to stay overnight, as I live alone and difficult to find someone to stop over.  I had a great time, My tea was great, especially having not had to cook it ;) and  having cups of tea being brought to me all night (I don't sleep well, even at home  ;) )  LOL

  • I live alone too so I’m going to stay at my parents for a couple of days. Like you I don’t sleep much - too many hot sweats from menopause and worry about this too if I’m honest for the past couple of weeks! Sooner tomorrow comes the sooner it’s done xx
