I'm triple negative just finished my chemotherapy. Met with my surgeon yesterday and he recommends just lumpectomy and nodes removed. I'm unsure as I thought it would be best to remove left breast or do double mastectomy but he advise against this. He told me go home think about it and call him asap but I'm still undecided. Anyone else been in this situation.

Thank you

Hi Ajbuchan welcome to the forum.

I felt like you when I got my diagnosis, but mine was Lobular Cancer and I didn't  need chemo but I did want a Mastectomy just to be rid of the Cancer. Like you I was given time to go away, have a think and then come back.  I  managed to speak to someone I knew that had had the same type of Cancer as mine and heard their story and after further explanation from the Surgeon about why I didn't need  a Mastectomy I opted for the Lumpectomy and Sentinal Lymph  node removal.  That was 4 years ago  now and Im still here.

I cant tell you what to do you need to make the choice that is right for you but a double Mastectomy or a single Mastectomy if it will make no difference to the outcome is a difficult choice and only you know how you would feel minus a breast or both?

You could if you wanted to speak to someone contact the Macmillan Line as  they have Cancer buddies that they could maybe put you in touch with to chat through what you are thinking? 08008080000.

Best Wishes for whatever you decide as its not an easy one for you but do keep in touch and let us know what you decide to do.xxx
