Does anyone know after how long you can resume yoga and Pilates after a lumpectomy?

  • Its been over a 3 years for me and I've still not done either.... sorry, was that so wrong of me haha

I can't answer this, I am sure other Fruit Loops will be along soon that can give advice.  My thoughts would be a few weeks, although 'gentle' exercise is okay.  The main thing to keep in mind and do are the exercises they give you - they seem 'gentle' and even 'do I need to do them'...... you do need to do them, to keep your arm movements free.  I am three years on and in the last 6 months or so have noticed my above/overhead arm movements have become restricted.  So any/all stretching above you shoulders and head - I would say soon the better - just don't over strain yourself xx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x

Thanks for this x I do yoga and pilates daily and I want to be able to get back to it asap I think gentle exercise will be good. No planks though! Xx

  • Hi. Had my lumpectomy last Friday and had a video chat with the physiotherapist the Tuesday before who went through and demonstrated the exercises you have to start the day after, she also told me to start going for some brisk walks about 3 days after and also sent me a load of links to different groups for exercise classes. If your breast clinic dose not do this type in exercise in the search bar there are a few threads about exercise. Good luck with your surgery if you have any questions please ask  x

Thank you so much for your reply. How are you feeling now? I hope you are recovering well x

I don't know what support they provide in terms of exercise. I do yoga and pilates regularly. Atm it's online as my studio is closed. I am hoping I can continue with this with some adapting to poses. I did as the consultant but she wasn't very clear in her response.

Thanks for the best wishes x
