hello, just about to start taking tamoxifen and I’ve read articles about different brand giving different side effects. I’ve got genesis. Anyone any experience of this or recommend a particular brand. I’m 50 and peri menopausal if that makes any difference x
Hi Cyprusfav I imagine that the Tamoxifen and the different brands may be like the Letrozol side effects and specific brands being better than others. They ususally give Tamoxifen to younger women like yourself who are pre- menopausal although I think it can speed things up a bit but not sure.
Hopefully one of the lovely folks on here will be along soon with some further information for you. x
Hi Cyprusfav nice to see you at this point on the rollercoaster. I started tamoxifen a week ago and was anxious about side effects but so far there have been none so hopefully that continues. I’m 51 and also perimenopausal and was told that they expect me to be on tamoxifen for about 2.5 years and then when/if menopausal I will switch to letrozol. The good thing about switching half way through is that tamoxifen increases bone density and then letrozole does the opposite so my oncologist is expecting the net effect to be zero and that when I finish taking hormone tablets in 5 years time my bone density will be back to where it is now.
Dont know anything about genesis I’m afraid.
Hope you don’t have any problems with taking tamoxifen. X
Hello, yes my consultant basically said the same about switching. So that’s good to know. What brand of tamoxifen are you on?
Cyprusfav I'm taking the Tillomed brand. I just read somewhere that someone felt awful on this brand and had to switch so I think it really depends on the person. I also read somewhere that it's the fillers different brands use that cause the problems which would make sense I guess as the active ingredient should be the same across brands.
Maybe ask your doctor which brand is best tolerated by people and then it's just trial and error. I'm about to take my 8th tablet so it might be too soon for side efects to manifest.
Good luck with whichever brand you go for x
Hi Cyprusfav
I have been on Tamoxifen for 4 years now and had , I would think, every brand going, and have never noticed a difference between any of them. I have several friends who are on/ have been on and they too have never reported any difference, so probably only people who do have issues report it on forums, whilst the vast majority are perfectly fine?
