My sister is having surgery imminently to remove a lump. She is having problems finding a suitable bra to wear afterwards as she has a cup size KK. I have scoured the internet and can’t find any. Please does anyone have any suggestions? I’d really appreciate your help. Thank you.

  • Afterwards she'll be a bit tender for a while,  and maybe a bit stiff from the sentinel biopsy (they sample the first few nodes nearest thr breast in the armpit). A front fastening shorts bra or post surgery bra is often recommended as it has a wider band and stretchy.  I bought a range from John Lewis,  M&S and a special post surgery brass film the cancer research shop,  but by far the best fit (and cheapest) for me were these:

  • I had a lumpectomy on 4th March so just over a week ago and I have struggled a bit with this.

I am a 38ff but obviously also very swollen following the procedure. Before the operation I bought 4 size large posts op bras from Asda following recommendations on here.  They seemed okay before the op so I was happy with them, but since the operation I have found that I can’t wear them.  They have a slit in them where the padding goes in or can be removed and I find it digs in my swollen breast  and they also don’t quite go high enough under the armpit to cover the incision.

so I pulled out a 15 year old “shock absorber” sports bra with a zip up the front and it is far better. Only issue is I am wearing it, washing and drying it and putting it straight back on!

the zip is much easier than all the hook and eyes on the other bras and it is high up under my armpit so doesn’t dig into my incision when I am hot and swollen.

    good luck!

Thank you so much for your help. I’ll forward your response to my sister, the sports bra sounds like a really good idea, and I can see how the fit would work. She now has a date for her operation (March 23rd).
I hope your recovery goes well and the swelling reduces soon.

    Very best wishes.

Thank you very much for your help, and for the link. I’ll pass the details to my sister. A sports bra seems to be a really option, and having worn them myself I can imagine they will give a lot of support. Thanks also for the recommendations re retail outlets and the cancer research shop. My sister now has a date for her op (March 23).
    Very best wishes.
