i have noticed that savoury food tastes salty and sweet foods taste very sweet. Does any one have the same experiencce? i am just changing Cheno and am taking a number of medications for secondary Breast Cancer.

  • Hi

That must make meal times a bit of a challenge, or an adventure!

I haven't had this experience but, if you haven't already, you could type something like 'change of taste' into the group's search bar to see if there are any previous posts on this topic.

  • Hi

Sorry to hear you have secondary cancer!

I had 3 sessions of EC, then 4 sessions of docetaxel, pertuzamab and trastuzumab in 3 weekly cycles Which I completed in January this year.  With each session my taste changed just as yours did.   I found a lot of things would be salty, I went of my favourite brown sauce! Gravy was yuk, and if anything was greasy I couldn’t eat it. I could taste the fat in gravy granules! The taste of tea was awful and we normally eat spicy food eg curry, tandoori etc but I found them far too hot for me.
Usually in the third week before the next treatment I would be okay so would make the most of it that week and enjoy all the things I couldn’t eat after treatment!

now I am through chemo my taste is back to normal phew!

    good luck!

  • Hi. I ah e just finished chemo and the taste of food has been really difficult. Sweet things were the only things I seemed to be able to eat easily and digest nicely. So I ate porridge and rice pudding and muesli as snacks. Not sure if that’s the right thing to do but my thoughts were to try and eat something and try and enjoy it a bit. Just had last chemo 2 weeks ago, I’m hopeful my taste buds start improving. A glass of wine would be a great treat but can’t stand the horrible taste at thE moment. Hope you manage ok with food and I would say relax and eat what you can. You need to kee your strength up!! Take care

  • Ha ha! Yes I remember lots of bowls of cereals too!

many times when I just could not face real food, I would just have cereals and skimmed milk.  Nice and easy.

I am now 8 weeks since my last chemo and have definitely got my taste back for a nice glass of wine!

    enjoy when it happens xx

    Hi

I am glad I am not the only one living off cereals, I tolerate them well. I have not had Chemo for 4 weeks now and my tastes are definitely improving. Back on Chemo later this week, a different drug combo, I do hope my taste is not affected this time.

Thank you for everyone's responses, it is nice to know others have had similar problems.

    Sapphire.

Thank you for your kind response, sometimes I feel I am the only one living on cereals and the occasional cuppa soup, although I am going off them too.

Hope your taste returns soon, all the best
